Ancient lyres, auloi, and modal Mediterranean strings carry the poem's world honestly — sparse and ceremonial in the lament scenes, surging and percussive when bronze meets bronze. The music never resolves cleanly, mirroring the Iliad's own refusal of easy victory: even the triumphant passages carry an undertow of loss.
